Rockwall Man Featured in 'One Crisis Away' Loses His Battle With Rare Disease

Twenty-five year old Isac Madrid, the Rockwall man featured in KERA's series One Crisis Away, died Thursday. He was 25.

He suffered from a rare disease that caused toxins to build up in his blood and attack his liver. Isac died from complications related to his second bone marrow transplant.

He leaves behind his wife Elizabeth and a 1 1/2-year-old boy, also named Isac.

Isac got sick and was hospitalized right after his son was born. He spoke to KERA last October about how tough it was to miss those early baby milestones.

“You know, not to be able to see him was very hard," Isac said. "My wife, also, I think it was hard on her, too, because I think she didn’t know who to really be with. Trying to be there for me, but she needs to be there for our son as well. Basically, I watched him grow through pictures.”

Funeral services have not yet been set. See Isac and Elizabeth’s first One Crisis Away video below. Click here to see the fundraising page established for medical expenses and funeral costs.
