The U.S. Postal Service is a step closer to leaving its landmark Lancaster Avenue post office in downtown Fort Worth. The building is among several iconic structures on the city’s south side.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins is trying to convince U.S. Postal Service executives to change their minds about closing the Main Post Office on I-30. KERA’s BJ Austin says the Judge took his case to Washington this week.

Dallas, TX – Ten mail processing centers in Texas are among 252 nationwide that will close in a $3 billion money-saving move by the government.

The U.S. Postal Service said Monday that it seeks to move quickly to shut the processing units and slow first-class delivery, amid declining mail volume. The Postal Service is projected to have a record loss of $14.1 billion next year.
