The Dallas School Board has adopted the final internal audit report that found nothing illegal in controversial reimbursements and hires made at the behest of the superintendent. Mike Miles says he will do better.  Teachers are not pleased.

Dallas School Trustee Bernadette Nutall says she’s worried the DISD may have broken its own audit rules or even the law when Superintendent Mike Miles hired new employees and the district paid some of their expenses.  Miles says nothing untoward happened.  

Parkland Hospital says it will not ask for a tax increase next year. That’s in spite of millions of dollars the hospital must spend after failing a series of critical federal inspections.

The Texas Education Agency says it’s re-evaluating the way it approves tutoring companies who bill millions in federal dollars for services. KERA’s Bill Zeeble follows up on last week’s DISD report of alleged fraud by some companies.

An auditing firm hired by the Dallas Independent School district says it has uncovered falsified documents linked to significant fraud through tutoring services. KERA’s Bill Zeeble reports hundreds of students who needed help may never have received it.

The Justice Department's civil rights division has objected to the new photo ID requirement for voters in Texas, saying many Hispanic voters lack state-issued identification.

The department says the state has failed to show that the newly enacted law has neither a discriminatory purpose nor effect.

In a letter to Texas officials, the Justice Department says Hispanic voters in Texas are as much as 120 percent more likely than non-Hispanic voters to lack a driver's license or personal state-issued photo ID.
