Eleven people died Saturday after tornadoes ripped through North Texas on Saturday. Here's what we know so far about those who died:
- Eight of the victims died in Garland. The oldest was 77. The youngest? A 1-year-old.
The Dallas County medical examiner's office first identified six of them: Camryn Craine, 1; Petra Ruiz, 27; Kimberly Tippett, 30, Lashondra Whitaker, 32; Sharva Sanders, 42; and Cecil Lowrie, 77.
Then the office identified the other two: Timothy Harris, 58; and Jose Oviedo Juarez, 19.
- Three people were killed in Collin County: two people in Copeville and an infant in Blue Ridge. The county has not released their names yet.
GoFundMe pages have been set up for some of the Garland victims and have received thousands of dollars in donations in a little more than a day:
- More than $10,000 has been donated by 250 people to cover the burial costs of Kimberly Tippett and her 1-year-old son, Camryn Craine.
- And more than $22,000 has been donated by more than 570 people to help the family of Petra Ruiz, a mother of four. "It feels like a nightmare," Juan Ruiz, her brother, told WFAA. "We're in a big nightmare and can't wake up." Ruben Porras, Petra's husband, talked to dallasnews.com about the harrowing experience of talking to his wife on the phone as disaster struck.
- Seven people have donated a total of $580 to the family of Cecil Lowrie.
