Donald Trump's view from his podium, where he will deliver his inaugural address, is seen during a dress rehearsal for the inauguration on the west front of the U.S. Capitol.

Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States on Friday. NPR's politics team, with help from journalists across the newsroom, produced a live annotation of his remarks.

Hundreds of thousands of people huddled on the Capitol steps and on the national Mall as rain fell.

Hundreds of thousands of others are expected Saturday for the Women's March on Washington.

City planners are betting that Trump's inauguration is more like President Barack Obama's second inauguration in 2013, which drew more than 800,000, rather than Obama's first in 2009, which drew 1.8 million people.

You can watch coverage of the inauguration in the live stream below or listen live to NPR coverage on KERA 90.1 throughout the day.

The tradition of the newly sworn-in president giving an address started with the first leader of the nation, George Washington in 1789. Most presidents use their address to proclaim their vision for the nation and goals to achieve that going forward. Read more about the history here.
