Top Stories: Trump Stumps In Fort Worth; Students Talk About Race

The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

Donald Trump will be in downtown Fort Worth today for a private fundraiser to help raise money for his presidential campaign. This will be Trump’s first Texas trip since formally claiming the Republican presidential nomination.

Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is expected to attend the Fort Worth fundraiser. He’ll also attend Trump’s private fundraiser later today in Austin and a public rally. There are no public events in Fort Worth during this visit.

Other stories this morning:

  • Today’s the last day of early voting for Frisco residents in a tax ratification election. Voters are deciding whether to raise property taxes to help hire more teachers and control rising class sizes in Frisco ISD. The district says student enrollment has grown about 60 percent since the 2009 school year.
  • A federal judge yesterday denied an attempt by UT Austin professors to keep guns out of their classrooms under the state’s campus carry law.
  • “The First Week” continues today with what students are saying about this summer’s police killings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota – and the five officers who were killed in downtown Dallas last month.
