The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

Early voting for the Nov. 8 general election ends tonight at 7 p.m. Along with the presidential and statewide elections, voters in the Carrollton-Farmer’s Branch school district will consider a tax increase proposal.

Districts can hold tax ratification elections if they want to go above the tax rate set by the state. Voters will decide whether to raise the overall tax rate by 11 cents. If the measure is approved, the district would get $17 million a year. School officials say the tax increase would help reduce class sizes, upgrade technology, and give teachers raises.

Several North Texas school districts have recently held tax ratification elections – and most of them have been successful. School officials say if the state isn’t going to pony up more money for education, they have to find other ways to get it.
