Top Stories: Teaching About Slavery In School; Spotlight On Ft. Worth Actor Matthew Gray

The top local stories this evening from KERA News:

A new report out by the Southern Poverty Law Center finds American students don’t fully understand many facts about slavery and the role it played in U.S. history. As KERA’s Stella Chavez reports, the study also says educators aren't adequately teaching students about slavery.

Other stories this evening:

  • Decades before slavery propelled the U.S. into Civil War, the issue was driving a wedge between the North American colonies and Great Britain. Today on Think, Krys Boyd talked with historian Paul Ortiz about the role slavery played in the American Revolution.

  • Matthew Gray isn't a leading-man actor. He's an everyman actor – a performer who lends a show real, grown-up credibility just by his presence. Now Gray's running the show and was recently appointed artistic director of Fort Worth's Circle Theatre. For this week's Art & Seek Artist Spotlight, Jerome Weeks sat down with Gray to learn about his background and his plans for the 37-year old company.
