The owner of the Balcony Club in Lakewood has died. Ted Davey had been battling cancer. In 2013, Davey bought the venerable but failing Dallas club and turned it into a favorite hangout for musicians.
Thirty years earlier, in Deep Ellum, Davey began his stage career with the Undermain Theatre. He was also a comic actor. Davey was 54.

According to the Centers For Disease Control, low-income neighborhoods are more vulnerable to natural disasters. And those poor neighborhoods are also disproportionately communities of color. KERA’s series One Crisis Away: After The Flood has followed several people who left their storm-wrecked homes after Hurricane Harvey and decided to re-settle in North Texas. All of them are black. Courtney Collins spoke with Chrishelle Palay with the Texas Low Income Housing Information Service—about why communities of color seem to always be in the path of the storm.
- This morning's four-alarm fire in downtown Denton has forced some street closures. Locust and Austin Streets are both closed between Oak and Hickory Streets. There were no reports of injuries, but several businesses were damaged in the fire on the historic downtown square. There's no word yet on what caused the fire.
