The top local stories this morning from KERA News: The dockless bike-sharing company LimeBike plans to roll out electric scooters and bikes in Dallas.
The Bay Area-based startup plans to introduce scooters next month and electric bikes in May, the Dallas Morning News reports. The process will be gradual. Regular bikes will be swapped out for the scooters and electric bikes. The mix will depend on demand.
The company’s new products have been placed in San Diego, Seattle and Washington D.C.
The Dallas City Council, meanwhile, is planning to draft new regulations for bike-sharing companies to deal with clogged streets and sidewalks.
Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax earlier this year issued a warning to the companies to clean up their respective fleets.
Together, VBikes, Ofo, Spin, LimeBike and Mobike have as many as 20,000 bikes scattered throughout the city. About half of those bikes belong to LimeBike.
