The top local stories this morning from KERA News: With Debbie Wasserman Schultz out as the chair of the Democratic National Committee, a top Texas Democrat has a few suggestions for her replacement.
Texas Democratic Party leader Gilberto Hinojosa pointed to U.S. Housing Secretary Julian Castro or his twin brother, U.S. Representative Joaquin Castro as possible picks.
“We are going to win the Hispanic vote by a high-percentage, but the question is can we grow the Hispanic vote?” Hinojosa said. “You have to have more of them going to out to vote and if you had someone like Julian or even Joaquin, they get that, they understand how that works."
However, Julian Castro told the Texas Tribune he has no interest in running the national committee. Castro was on Clinton’s short list for vice presidential picks.
For now, Democratic strategist and party official Donna Brazile will be the interim chair during the convention.
