Dallas, TX –

Three million Texans have travel plans this Thanksgiving weekend. KERA's BJ Austin says that's a big increase from last year.

Thanksgiving travel by Texans is up 7.5 percent from last year. The down economy cancelled holiday trips for a lot of people last year.

Dan Ronan, with Triple-A Texas says most of those traveling this holiday weekend are going by car.

Ronan: Well above 80%, close to 90% of those who will be traveling will be doing it in their automobile. The car for Thanksgiving turns out to be a more economical way to go.

The average price of gasoline statewide is $2.50. That's two cents higher than last week .but still 14 cents below the national average. The average price at the pump in Dallas Fort Worth is $2.48. Last year at this time, gasoline was nearly four dollars a gallon.
