Study Up For 'Think': What Will It Take For The Media To Stop Failing Women? [VIDEO]
Consider what powerful members of the press actually said about women in 2012 before Think host Krys Boyd talks to Julie Burton, President of the Women’s Media Center, at noon.
It was startling, to understate, when Rush Limbaugh called Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke a "prostitute" and a "slut" last year (he botched her name, too, referring to her as "Susan.") But he isn't the only talking head who called women names or blamed them for violence enacted against females. And offenders weren't just men, either. This video from the blog Miss Representation rounds up a series of gaffes from last year. Be advised: Though these clips are culled from mainstream news coverage, language isn't safe for work.
Burton speaks at the Gender in Media Forum & Luncheon, hosted by Dallas Women’s Foundation in partnership with Embrey Family Foundation, on Friday.
Listen to Think from noon to 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday, on KERA 90.1 or stream the show at kera.org.
