It's hard to miss the StoryCorps MobileBooth in Sammons Park at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas.
The 26-foot aluminum Airstream trailer, wheelchair accessible, is the non-profit's traveling recording studio.
“We're about to hit our 100,000th participant," says David Isay, founder of StoryCorps. "And maybe we'll do this in Dallas. People talk about what's most important in their lives...the great themes of human existence."
The first Texans to record their stories today inside the StoryCorpsAirstream trailer --- Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez and multimedia artist Christopher Blay. Valdez will talk to her friend, Claudio Cejas, from her first campaign. Blay will talk with Richard Doherty, his former professor.
A special ceremony took place Thursday morning with remarks from representatives of KERA and AT&T Performing Arts Center. On Friday, reservations will be available starting at 10 a.m. at StoryCorps.
The event is free and open to the public.
KERA 90. 1 FM will air a selection of the local interviews recorded in the StoryCorps MobileBooth. And segments of selected interviews may air nationally on NPR's Morning Edition.
