Dallas, TX – Storms that roared across North Texas early this morning tore off roofs and toppled trees.

KERA's BJ Austin has more. Neighbors on Lakeland off Fyke Road in Carrollton were out early looking at the damage and wondering when the power would come back on. The big tree in Chris Lamendola's front yard was lying across the street leaving only the tiniest margin for a car to squeeze by. He says he didn't hear the big tree fall, but he sure heard the storm and the warnings.

Irene Polomo is a crossing guard for nearby McLaughlin Elementary. She was shocked to the damage in the neighborhood.

50 Homes were reported damaged in Allen, in Collin County; 20 damaged in DeSoto, the southern Dallas suburb. Power was knocked out for some 180 thousand customers across DFW, forcing classes to be cancelled in the Hurst Euless Bedford school district. Only one serious injury has been reported.. a gas field worker in Johnson County, south of Fort Worth, was hurt when his trailer was blown over.
