Dallas, TX – Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport's Ken Capps says 75 percent of its flights have been canceled due to one of the more vicious storms the area's seen in some time.
Capps: We'll have several thousand passengers in the terminal tonight. We realize it's never fun to get stuck in the airport. Will keep the terminal as comfortable as possible, consionnaire will stay open late, and the TSA will open early in the morning.
Capps says wind speeds whipped above 100 miles an hour at times and the FAA reported 2 funnel clouds.
At Dallas Love field, Southwest airlines canceled at least 80 flights with delays up to 3 hours. But the carrier now says take offs and landings have begun again. Meteorologist Tim Barry, with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, expects heavy storms will continue into the evening, hampering road and air travel.
Barry: The worst will be high winds and hail but you can never rule out tornadoes. Some dropped down yesterday in Abilene.
Barry says severe weather should finally taper off much later tonight. Bill Zeeble KERA news.
