Roads around Dallas-Fort Worth are "generally clear," but drivers should still watch out for icy spots in east and southeast Dallas, KXAS-TV meteorologist Brian James says.
While North Texas was largely spared the harsh road conditions predicted Monday, folks should heed the warnings of bitter cold temperatures as they walk out the door Tuesday.
The Texas Department of Transportation pre-treated roads in Dallas and Fort Worth. TxDOT executive director James Bass said on Twitter that the treatment helps for removal later, but it can't guarantee that there will be no snow or ice on the roads.
Preventive winter road treatments are used to prevent the formation or development of bonded snow and ice for easy removal. They work by lowering, NOT eliminating, the freezing point of water. School delays, closing
Fort Worth ISD has delayed the start of school for two hours Tuesday. Dallas ISD, Garland ISD and Coppell ISD are operating at normal hours. Grand Prairie ISD and Richardson ISD both had Tuesday marked as a holiday for students, but Grand Prairie staff is being asked not to come in either.

Tuesday will be breezy and cold
Tuesday morning brings wind chills in the single digits as gusts from the north blow between 15 and 25 miles per hour, the weather service says.
Highs across the Metroplex are not expected to climb above freezing, but winds should die down. Even if it's dry during the day, earlier precipitation could be still make driving a hazard.
A hard freeze watch — meaning temperatures at or below 10 degrees — has been issued Tuesday night. Lows will range from the single digits across the northern and northwestern parts of the region to the teens elsewhere.

Statement from Abbott
Since much of Texas is preparing for winter weather, Gov. Greg Abbott issued a statement Monday night saying he's made state resources available if needed to assist with any impacts.
