The Red-Blue Debate Hits The Bar: Pitch Your Politicocktail
Here at The High Five, we’re all about thoughtful civic participation. And exacting competition. And discussing these ideas over cocktails at high-toned Dallas bars.
So in advance of Wednesday’s debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney, we’re asking you, our discerning listeners and readers, to dream up politically themed cocktails.
We’ll take ideas to represent the Blue and the Red, with a special interest in bipartisan (purple) concoctions. Post your ideas -- titles, ingredients and a one-sentence pitch -- at the KERA News Facebook page. Be civil or be disqualified.
Beloved ace mixologist Eddie "Lucky" Campbell at The Chesterfield in downtown Dallas will judge, and he’ll choose the recipes he likes best to serve during pre-debate happy hour on Wednesday at the bar from 5-7 p.m. before you watch Obama and Romney get to it at 8 p.m.
You have until noon Wednesday to enter.
The decision came down: Eddie chose Christopher Bevins' bourbon drink "Right to The Bitter End." The winner describes the concoction as "a slightly bitter twist on a classic Manhattan; the bartender, who admires the cocktail's integrity, warns its "a big boy drink."
Eddie will also make the "Donkey Cooler" to keep things fair. It's a vodka-based drink with lime, mint, ginger beer and blue Curacao.
The bar plans to show the debate on TV at 8 p.m. Hope to see you there.
