Dallas, TX – After sampling exotic combinations and artistically presented dishes, judges for the Pillsbury Bakeoff opted for simplicity. They gave the million dollar check for best original recipe to Carolyn Gurtz of Gaithersburg Maryland for her Double-Delight Peanut Butter Cookies
Cook book author and lead judge Angela Medearis, of Austin, said creativity and ease of preparation were factors.
Medearis: This is a twist on a classic cookie, a peanut butter cookie is a classic American cookie, done in a creative way, using ingredients that are real simple ingredients pretty much everybody would have on hand.
Four North Texans were among those vying for the grand prize. Stephanie Hollowell, an air traffic controller in Addison, says she plans to compete again.
Hollowell: I'm still going for sweets. I'm thinking of cake. No more cookies, although it did win, didn't it. There just isn't enough room on those cook surfaces to do cookies.
