Obama Argues Law And History On His Side In Immigration Case

President Obama's executive action on immigration was blocked Monday by a Texas federal judge.

President Barack Obama is arguing the law and history are on his side in a legal dispute over his executive order to protect millions of immigrants from deportation.

Obama says his administration will appeal an order from a federal judge in Texas that temporarily blocks his program. The ruling gives a coalition of 26 states time to pursue a lawsuit that aims to permanently stop the orders.

Obama told reporters from the Oval Office that he's confident he was well within his authority to make the order. He predicted the case will be resolved in his favor.

Meanwhile, he says his administration will abide by the ruling. That means U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will stop working on plans to launch the program until further notice.
