Miles Assumes DISD's Top Job With Billboard Welcome

Jul 2, 2012

Dallas Superintendent Mike Miles is officially on the job as of Sunday.

He’s actually been working in Dallas part time for at least a month, earning $1,000 a day.

The Chamber of Commerce will welcome Miles with several billboards around town. He’s also named much of his team, including a controversial media hire who earned $86,000 working for him in Colorado Springs. Now she’s making $185,000.

DISD’s Chief of School Leadership is Doctor Sylvia Reyna, from Fort Worth ISD, and one of Miles’ Assistant Superintendents is Mauricio Dominguez, hired from Williams Prep Charter Uplift School, in Dallas. The district’s own Shirley Ison-Newsome also becomes an Assistant Superintendent with a pay hike over her old salary.

Miles will pick a total of 20 executive directors, and has already named 12, including current Thomas Jefferson High School principal Edward Conger and W.W. Samuell High’s principal Israel Cordero. They will help him implement his Destination 2020 plan designed to significantly improve academic performance over the next 8 years.
