Light Turnout Predicted for Election Day
By BJ Austin, KERA News
Dallas, TX –
Tomorrow is Election Day. Eleven state constitutional amendments are on the ballot, as well as local issues. But not many people are expected to go to the polls.
Elections Administrator Bruce Sherbet predicts a 3-4% voter turnout in Dallas County.
Sherbet: If in this constitutional amendment election we had gambling on the ballot, or we had way back like when he had horse racing or lottery - some high profile, what we call hot button issues on the ballot, you will always get a high turnout for a constitutional amendment. Maybe even as high as 30% turnout.
Sherbet says three Dallas School Board seats are on the ballot, but they're not expected to generate a lot of voters.
Arlington decides a 197 million dollar school district bond package, the first in ten years.
Fort Worth voters decide whether to continue the half-cent sales tax for the Crime Control and Prevention District.
Tarrant County Elections Administrator Steve Rayburn predicts a 5 to 7% voter turnout.
