Dallas, TX –

Kinky Friedman may be bowing out of the Democratic race for Governor. KERA's Shelley Kofler has an update.

The colorful humorist and author promised an announcement yesterday, and then said he needed a few more days to determine how his decision will affect the democratic ticket.

Friedman was the best known among democratic gubernatorial candidates until Houston Mayor Bill White entered the race last week. Two other Democrats have already ended their campaigns for Governor as party leaders close ranks behind White. Fort Worth businessman Tom Schieffer dropped out and threw his support behind White. East Texas Rancher Hank Gilbert said he would run for agriculture commissioner instead and endorsed Houston millionaire and businessman Farouk Shami for Governor.

Friedman says he'll visit with White and Shami before announcing his campaign plans.
