GOP Lt. Gov. Candidate Dan Patrick Campaigns With Mike Huckabee In Highland Park
Dan Patrick brought out some star power in Highland Park: Mike Huckabee. The former presidential candidate and Fox News host focused on Patrick’s surprising lead in the March 4 primary.
Huckabee said it looks good for his friend Patrick to be the next lieutenant governor of Texas.
“Dan shocked everybody coming out of that election with a double-digit lead,” Huckabee said. “All he needs to do now is just remind people of Texas why he was their choice to begin with.”
Patrick, a state senator, wasted no time.
“We need someone with passion and energy who’s going to complete the conservative agenda that has not been completed," Patrick said. "I’m looking at what needs to be done and that’s why I think people looking for new leadership -- they know there’s a conservative agenda that has not been completed.”
For Patrick, that agenda includes more border security, roads, water, and more school choice for parents. He said he wants to solve the inner city school crisis where there’s a 40 percent to 50 percent dropout rate. He also wants creationism taught in Texas public schools.
“I think we really confuse our kids and our grandchildren because we send them to Sunday school, they learn about Jesus, they learn about the creation of the world, and then they go to school and they’re denied the opportunity to hear that," Patrick said. "They must be really confused.”
Patrick says evolution and creationism and should both be taught.
“In a science class or whatever class they want to teach it,” Patrick said. “When we took prayer out of the public schools decades ago was the beginning of a step backward for our culture and families.”
Patrick is depending on tea party forces that fueled his primary lead to put him over the top in the May 27 runoff.
