Deadline Looms Over Governor's Debate
By Shelley Kofler, KERA News
Dallas, TX – The deadline is midnight tonight. Governor Rick Perry says if Bill White hasn't released additional tax returns from the years he served in the Clinton administration, Perry won't agree to a televised debate.

Perry: He is running on 'I am a great business guy' and if you're such a great business guy, show the people of the state of Texas how you made your money, that's pretty simple. Down the road is not the time to learn about whether or not you bought a lemon of a car.
White says he's already released returns from the years he served as Houston Mayor and Perry doesn't want to square off against him.

White: I'm willing to debate Rick Perry, he doesn't want to debate or appear before editorial boards because he doesn't want to be accountable for things like the $18 billion dollar budget hole. I've made far more financial disclosures than Rick Perry has.
While in Dallas yesterday both gubernatorial candidates also talked about how to handle a huge state budget deficit.
