Dallas Snags Big Cycling Event

Dallas, TX – The winner of the "Super Bowl" of cycling will be crowned in Dallas this year.

In September, the city will host the Texas Tough Grand Prix bike race. It is the last of nine high-speed, city-street bike races in the USA "Criterium" Championship Series.

Preston Walhood, with Texas Tough, says landing the championship race is a big deal for Dallas.

Walhood: Normally, the finale is held in Las Vegas during a week that we call Inter-Bike. And Inter-Bike this year is not going to host the finale this year. The Texas Tough Grand Prix will. So, all roads this year will lead to Dallas.

Walhood expects at least 20 thousand spectators and 150 competitors from around the world, including Tour de France cyclists. They'll race around Victory Plaza downtown at speeds up to 50 miles an hour.
