Five stories that have North Texas talking: Quintuplets head home to Northeast Texas after four months at Baylor; immigrant kids won't be coming to temporary shelters in Dallas; the Dallas Museum of Art announces a Jackson Pollock exhibition; and more.
The first quintuplets born at Baylor University Medical Center are heading home. Michelle Seals, who lives near Texarkana in Northeast Texas, had five babies on March 18 – four girls and one boy: Rayleigh, Gracie, Mia, Tessa and Brant. WFAA-TV reports: “One by one, they were released. The first baby went home as early as June 6. The fifth and final quintuplet was out this week. Thursday, after a final round of check-ups, they were cleared to head home.” Seals said about the hospital staff: "I don't know what I would do without them. I'm just so happy that I get to stay in touch with them and continue our friendship from Maud, and they're going to have to come and visit." She and her husband, Steven, also have a 2-year-old boy.
- Immigrant kids will not be coming to temporary shelters in Dallas, County Judge Clay Jenkins announced Thursday afternoon. He says children won’t be going to any temporary shelters in the United States – they will be housed at existing shelters along the U.S.-Mexico border, Jenkins said. Dallas County had announced earlier this summer it would shelter 2,000 children. But Health and Human Services officials tell Jenkins that the number of children coming across the border has dropped in recent weeks. Read more from KERA's Doualy Xaykaothao.
- Denton's Sarah Jaffe will perform a show Aug. 23 at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas. The show will celebrate her third full-length album, Don’t Disconnect, which is being released Aug. 19. A press release notes it will be her biggest headlining show in Dallas since her recording career began six years ago. Why the Majestic? “The Majestic is a gorgeous and historical theater in Dallas,” Jaffe said in the release. “I have never played that room before. I think that's really the main reason why the Majestic was it for us. I've never done it before. So...why not?”
- The Dallas Museum of Art will be the only venue in the United States that will host an exhibition of works by Jackson Pollock. KERA’s Anne Bothwell reports: “The abstract expressionist is known for dripping and pouring his paint across large canvases. The exhibition is called ‘Jackson Pollock: Blind Spots.’ It focuses on a lesser-known phase of work known as the Black Pourings. But it will also include some of his most famous paintings, as well as drawings and rarely seen sculptures. It's the first show curated by Gavin Delahunty, who joined the DMA in May. Previously, he worked at the Tate Liverpool, which co-organized the exhibition. The show is scheduled to open in November 2015.” See images on KERA’s Art&Seek.
- A 15,000-square-foot home in Preston Hollow is for sale. It includes a conservatory, natatorium and indoor and outdoor pools. And it’s yours for just $37.5 million. WFAA-TV took a tour of the home on DeLoache Avenue. It belongs to Lisa Blue Baron, the prominent attorney, who’s moving to Washington, D.C. “It would seem hard to say a home this size is cozy, but it is,” said Erin Mathews, the Realtor charged with selling the palace.
