Looted Art Going From DMA Back To Turkey
The piece, the Orpheus Mosaic, was purchased at auction more than a decade ago. “This is an ethical decision, not a legal decision,” museum director Maxwell Anderson said. Art&Seek's Stephen Becker has the story.
The Dallas Museum of Art announced today that it is returning a work of art to Turkey that was looted from the country. The museum purchased the Orpheus Mosaic in 1999 at a public auction. (The DMA does not disclose purchase prices of works of art.)
