Union Station in downtown Dallas opened in 1916 as a railroad hub for the city. At its peak, 80 trains passed through daily.  After a brief closure in the 1970s, Union Station still services buses and rail, but it remains underused. However, things are looking up as the station approaches its 100th birthday.

Plans for a bullet train that would link Dallas to Houston in 90 minutes took a big step forward this week: North Texans got their first chance to see the proposed routes. About 100 people chimed in on where the train should stop in Dallas -- and they were united in their choice: Union Station in downtown.

"Friendly fire" may have injured the officer and bystander wounded on the Chicago-bound AMTRAK train Monday. But Dallas Police Chief Brown says police actions likely saved lives, as KERA's Bill Zeeble reports.
