State Lawmakers Seek More Regulation of Topless Clubs

Dallas, TX – Dallas State Representative Rafael Anchia requested that the House licensing and regulation committee meet at Dallas City Hall to talk about new state laws that could tighten regulations on topless clubs across the state. He outlined repeated problems at one club that the TABC never moved to shut down.

Dallas County DA looks for death penalty debate

Dallas, TX – The ruling that Kentucky's method of lethal injection is NOT cruel and unusual punishment clears the way for Texas to resume executions. Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins is not surprised. What interests him is an opinion in the case from Justice Paul Stevens that seems to challenge the death penalty. Watkins read it moments before he was in court for the release of a man after 23 years in prison for a crime he did not commit - the 16th Dallas County inmate cleared by DNA tests.

Judge to Decide Fate of Seized Children

Dallas, TX – Authorities raided the ranch and seized the children after receiving a call from a woman who said she was 16, lived at the ranch and was being sexually abused by her 50-year old husband.

Women from the ranch are asking their children be returned.

KERA's Shelley Kofler talked with Daryl Azar from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. He says the state is asking the judge to place the children in foster care.

DNA frees a Garland man after 23 years in prison.

Dallas, TX – Thomas McGowan, accused of rape, was the victim of a bad photo ID, according to Innocence Project Director Barry Scheck, who says it's not that the Richardson Police officer in 1985 was purposely doing something wrong.

Scheck: "When he showed these photos to the victims in this case and she said I think it's this guy, pointing to Mr. McGowan's picture. And then he said to her, Well you have to be sure. Is that him, yes or no? That kind of forced response that's very damaging."
