Dallas Adds Name to Police Memorial

Dallas, TX – Dallas Police have added another name to the downtown Police Memorial: Senior Corporal Victor Lozada, killed in a motorcycle crash while escorting Senator Hillary Clinton's motorcade. KERA's BJ Austin was at the city's annual Police Memorial ceremony as Mayor Tom paid tribute to the 78 Dallas Police officers killed in the line of duty.

Guilty Pleas Cap Texas Syndicate Prosecution

Dallas, TX – He overwhelmingly defeated his opponent in Saturday's election. with 64 percent of the vote. Now, Tim O'Hare is the Mayor-elect of Farmer's Branch. Widely known for his ordinances against illegal immigration, O'Hare says there's a lot more he wants for his town than ridding it of illegal immigrants. Community Garden turns 20 in Dallas

Dallas, TX – It's Saturday morning and the East Dallas Community garden is bustling. Today is the first plant sale of the season. The air is full of fresh, pungent aromas and idle chatter. The gardeners, mostly Southeast Asian seniors, have taken a break from tending their plants to make a profit. Some display the season's first harvest on tables near the garden entrance. Others sell their produce right in front of their narrow garden plots.

DISD's Next Steps

Dallas –
Dallas school officials expect to choose the first firms to build and renovate schools within the next 90 days. That thanks to voter approval of the $1.3 billion bond proposal Saturday.

But Superintendent Michael Hinojosa says the relatively close vote also delivered a message that citizens want financial management problems cleared up.

Dallas Passes $1.35 Billion School Bond

Dallas – Dallas voters have approved a $1.3 billion bond package that will pay to build and renovate public schools. But supporters say the vote: 54-percent in favor and 46-percent against- was also a wake up call, as KERA's Shelley Kofler reports.
