Hundreds attended the Tuesday morning funeral for Dallas Police Officer Rogelio Santander, who was fatally shot last week while questioning a suspected shoplifter at a Home Depot in Northeast Dallas.

Bill To Enforce Reporting Of Police Shootings Stumbles, Then Passes

After failing by one vote on the House floor Wednesday night, a bill to penalize law enforcement agencies that don't report police shootings to the state was reconsidered and tentatively passed on a quick, quiet voice vote Thursday morning.

When Texas police are involved in a shooting – whether they shot the gun or not – they are mandated to report it to the attorney general’s office. But the legislator who sponsored the 2015 law acknowledges that it has no teeth. And one report has found that not all police departments are following the rules.
