Just as fans did for his fights in the '60s and '70s, people in Muhammad Ali's hometown of Louisiville, Kentucky, lined up for hours for tickets to a public service for the boxing great.  His recent death reminded commentator Lee Cullum of her first encounter with Ali in Dallas.

Bob Ray Sanders is a longtime columnist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, but his roots go even farther back at KERA. Forty years ago, he was a reporter for “Newsroom” on KERA-TV – the show where he and  Jim Lehrer got their starts. Sanders and Lee Cullum actually helped pull the switch on July 11, 1974, that launched KERA radio. To mark the radio station’s 40th anniversary, he shares these memories.

Commentator Lee Cullum shares memories of meeting Mandela a year before he won the position.

American retailers have refused to join an international plan to improve safety conditions at garment factories in Bangladesh. That includes Walmart. Thinking back to a meeting this past winter, the retail giant's stance came as no surprise to commentator Lee Cullum.

As Britain's "Iron Lady" was laid to rest Wednesday, commentator Lee Cullum looked back on her personal encounters with former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
