Dallas Mayor Investigates Ordinance Targeting Uber Limo Service

Dallas City Hall’s beef with Uber, the popular app-based limo service, has escalated into an internal investigation. The flap is over an update to the city’s limo ordinance restricting Uber’s service. It was slipped onto the city council agenda for a vote without any public discussion.

Sen. Wendy Davis Asking President To Withdraw Opposition to American's Merger

Texas Sen. Wendy Davis has sent a letter to President Obama asking his administration to reconsider opposition to the merger of American Airlines and US Airways. 

Davis, a Democrat, represents parts of Fort Worth which is where American Airlines resides.

Davis tells the president thousands of jobs will be lost in Texas and around the country if the merger does not succeed.  She says she disagrees with U.S. Justice Department claims that a merger between the two airlines will reduce competition and raise consumer prices

Contempt Charges Against Dallas D.A. Dismissed

Contempt charges against Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins have been thrown out by visiting judge Robert Brotherton.  

Brotherton ruled the prosecutorial misconduct hearing at which Watkins refused to answer questions was improper, and was an attempt by attorneys for Al Hill III to find evidence of misconduct instead of presenting required evidence.

Allen Police Say Dewhurst Call Was Handled By The Book

Political opponents claim Lt. Governor David Dewhurst was abusing his office when he tried to gain release of a relative jailed in Allen, but Allen police disagree. 

The audiotape of Dewhurst’s 12-minute phone conversation with officers was made available to the public Wednesday, and it’s created a political storm that may follow Dewhurst to the ballot box as he campaigns for reelection.

On the August 3 recording Dewhurst identifies himself numerous times as a top political official.

Dewhurst Cites His Influential Position During A Police Call Aimed At Having A Relative Released

Allen Police have released an audiotape of Lt. Governor David Dewhurst's call following the August 3 arrest of a relative. In it Dewhurst asks to speak to a supervisor, repeatedly mentions his political position and says he will have DPS Director Steve McCraw call on his behalf.

The relative, Ellen Bevers, was jailed and charged with shoplifting at a Kroger's grocery store on Aug. 3, police said.

Republican Senator Ted Cruz faced some hecklers in Dallas Tuesday night as he urged conservatives to demand their elected representatives vote to defund ObamaCare.

The push comes as Cruz is increasingly mentioned as a likely presidential candidate in 2016.

Dallas County's Democratic Commissioners Vote To Sue Governor And Halt Voter ID Law

In a 3-2 vote Dallas County Commissioners voted Tuesday to join a lawsuit that seeks to stop the implementation of Texas' Voter ID law. One Democrat on the court, Elba Garcia, voted against joining the lawsuit.
Democratic Dallas County commissioners narrowly agreed this afternoon to join a lawsuit against Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry over state efforts to enforce a controversial voter identification law. Democratic Commissioner Elba Garcia stepped out of the partisan fray inextricably linked to the national debate on voter ID laws and joined Republican colleague Mike Cantrell in voting against the move.

Special Prosecutor To Investigate Perry Veto

A Texas judge says he plans to have a special prosecutor review allegations that Gov. Rick Perry abused his office when he vetoed state funding for the Travis County District Attorney’s Public Integrity Unit.

The complaint stems from an allegation that Perry said he would veto millions in funding for the office if Democratic D.A. Rosemary Lehmberg did not step down.  Lehmberg was arrested for drunken-driving in April but did not quit her job.
