At a news conference dominated by discussion of what's expected to be Washington's next big political battle, President Obama insisted Monday that he will not let Republicans tie an increase in the federal government's borrowing limit to negotiations over cuts in future federal spending.

Congressional members are back in Washington today. North Texas leaders, including  Fort Worth Representative Kay Granger, worry about falling off the so-called fiscal cliff because many defense contractors are based in North Texas.

North Texas members of Congress headed back to Washington Thursday.  The Senate's first official agenda does not include the fiscal cliff, even though the deadline to avoid automatic budget cuts and tax hikes is Jan. 1.
