Texas Republicans Prepare for March 4 Primary

Dallas, TX – Zeeble: Of the party's remaining top presidential candidates, only Texan Ron Paul garnered no support among these conservative Catholics. They were at a this Fat Tuesday thank-you dinner honoring their volunteer church work. Several say leading Republican John McCain is too moderate for them. That's why engineer Steve Suellentrop prefers Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

Texas Republicans Gear Up For State Primary

Dallas, TX – Bill Zeeble KERA reporter: It was a crowded gathering near downtown Dallas last night, where hundreds of Texas voters assembled NOT for a Super Tuesday party, but a Fat Tuesday thank-you dinner. It honored volunteers at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, many of whom are Republicans who talked about their primary choices. Of the remaining top candidates, only Texan Ron Paul garnered no support. Computer Technician John Lipscomb likes current front runner John McCain.

James Huffines Leading McCain Effort in Texas

James Huffines

Dallas, TX – University of Texas Regent James Huffines is in Phoenix tonight where he'll watch Super Tuesday voter returns with Presidential Candidate John McCain. Huffines says it's possible - but not likely - McCain will clinch the Republican nomination tonight. Which means Texans would help make the choice.

More Texans Registering to Vote

Sec. of State Phil Wilson

Dallas, TX – Excitement over the Presidential contest seems to have prompted many new voters to register in Texas.

Today is the last day to register if you want vote in Texas' March 4 Primary.

Secretary of State Phil Wilson says Texas added 100-thousand new voters to the roles in January. And if primaries tomorrow don't determine the party nominees, the turnout in Texas should be strong.

Texas Holds Immigration Hearings

Richardson, TX – Bill Zeeble, reporter: Local and state law enforcement officials are still trying to figure out how best to deal with illegal immigrants. Some say they cause serious crimes and cost governments money, others say problems are not that serious, and illegal immigrants pay taxes. Either way local officials must talk to federal authorities, because Corrections Chairman Jerry Madden says only federal officials determine the national status of jailed inmates.
