Contempt charges against Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins have been thrown out by visiting judge Robert Brotherton.  

Brotherton ruled the prosecutorial misconduct hearing at which Watkins refused to answer questions was improper, and was an attempt by attorneys for Al Hill III to find evidence of misconduct instead of presenting required evidence.

Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins could face jail time and a fine for contempt of court. Judge Lena Levario found Watkins in contempt after he refused to answer questions in a mortgage fraud case, and later dismissed the charges.

Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins is expected in court Thursday morning for a hearing on alleged prosecutorial misconduct. He was subpoenaed to appear last month, but defied the order saying he was in his office, but too ill to appear. That was just the latest in a string of controversies for Watkins, who has been a lightning rod from the start.
