UPDATE: More Than $10 Million Donated So Far On North Texas Giving Day

UPDATE at 1:40 p.m. Thursday: By early this afternoon, North Texas Giving Day clocked in with $10 million and 35,000 donations.

More than 1,000 certified nonprofits are eligible to receive money today -- they’re listed on donorbridgetx.org.

Organizers report that a formerly homeless client at Arlington Life Shelter donated to the shelter as part of North Texas Giving Day. Both Ronald McDonald House and Second Saturday surpassed their 2012 Giving Day totals before reaching the halfway point today.

Giving Day wraps up at midnight. Donations can be made via donorbridgetx.org.

Donations of $25 or more will be multiplied by a certain percentage from more than $1.5 million in bonus funds.

Free events continue throughout the day.

  • Through 4 p.m., visit the Center for Nonprofit Management Donation Station, 2701 W. Berry St., Ste. 128, in Fort Worth.
  • From 5:20 p.m. to 6 p.m. visit the Klyde Warren Park Donation Station at Klyde Warren Park, 2012 Woodall Rodgers Fwy, in Dallas. Activities include a free yoga class and a Skyline360 Tour by the Dallas Center for Architecture.
  • From 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., visit  Communities Foundation of Texas, 5500 Caruth Haven Ln., in Dallas, or the “Giving Day Home Stretch” party. The event features performances by Turtle Creek Chorale and Lone Star Wind Orchestra, a champagne toast and free gelato.

ORIGINAL POSTING:Today is North Texas Giving Day– and it’s a good day to donate online to your favorite nonprofit.

In just the first three hours of North Texas Giving Day, more than 20,000 donations and $6 million have been donated to participating nonprofits. The event lasts until midnight.

North Texas Giving Day hopes to beat last year’s record of 37,800 donations that totaled $14.4 million.

Various public parties are scheduled throughout the day. This morning, at the DART Akard station in downtown Dallas, two dozen dance students from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts greeted commuters with flash mobs.

Free events continue throughout the day.

  • From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. visit the Communities Foundation of Texas Donation Station at the Communities Foundation of Texas, 5500 Caruth Haven Ln., in Dallas. There will be performances featuring music, dance, theater and African storytelling. Penguins, puppies and ponies will make appearances. There will be “choco-chirp” cookies and food trucks.

  • Through 4 p.m., visit the Center for Nonprofit Management Donation Station, 2701 W. Berry St., Ste. 128, in Fort Worth.
