The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

Some Texas Democrats running for office are managing to out-fundraise their Republican opponents. Recent Texas Tribune figures show four Democrats running for Congress have all reached the $1 million mark in campaign contributions.

However, former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez isn't feeling the contribution love in her race to unseat Gov. Greg Abbott. The Republican reports having nearly $29 million in the bank, which is 130 times more money than Valdez, at just over $220,000.

Other stories this morning:

  • When a new medical school opens in Fort Worth next year, it will feature what’s believed to be the only medical school in the country with a four-year curriculum in communication and a dean dedicated solely to that subject. KERA’s Bill Zeeble reports the focus on communication is designed to improve not just the health of patients, but of doctors, too.
