The top local stories this morning from KERA News: In the aftermath of the mass shooting in Orlando, the U.S. Senate today will vote on four measures seeking to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists.

One of those measures by Texas Senator John Cornyn would put a 72-hour delay when anyone who’s been on a federal terror watch list within the past five years tries to buy a gun.

Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Charles Grassley of Iowa want to bolster federal databases to make it easier to notify law enforcement if someone under investigation as a terrorist in recent years tries to buy a firearm.

These and two Democratic measures up for consideration today have failed in previous votes after mass shootings. None is expected to get the 60 votes needed to pass.
