Top Stories: An Update On Dallas’ Stray Dog Problem

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: A Dallas City Council committee this morning will get an update on the city’s loose dog problem – and it’s promising.  

Since Dallas Animal Services implemented changes suggested by Boston Consulting Group three months ago, impoundments have increased by 33 percent.  There’s also been a 193 percent uptick in citations and an 18 percent increase in live release of animals though adoptions.

Other stories this morning:

  • Building a wall along the U-S-Mexico border was a signature plank of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. With Inauguration Day a little over a week away, that campaign promise is looking more like a reality. We’ll have a special report on Trump’s proposed border wall today on Texas Standard.
  • People once vigilant about vaccinating their children aren’t nearly as careful about protecting themselves as they age, though some diseases are particular dangerous for older people.
