Top Stories: Today's The Filing Deadline For 2018 Elections

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: Tonight's the filing deadline for candidates seeking to run in the 2018 elections. An unusual number of retirements by seven members of Congress and some prominent state legislators has triggered a slew of filings for next year's primaries.

There's already some competition for seats in North Texas. Here are the candidates so far.

  • Services are scheduled Thursday at Highland Park United Methodist Church for Dallas philanthropist Ruth Altshuler. She died Friday from complications with a broken hip. She was 93.
  • UT Southwestern Medical Center’s conducting clinical trials of a new FDA-approved therapy for multiple myeloma.
  • The Dallas Cowboys still have a shot at the playoffs after yesterday's 30-10 win against the New York Giants.
