The top local stories this evening from KERA News:

Hurricane Harvey is intensifying over the Gulf of Mexico before it hits the Texas coast late Friday. It could become a Category 3 hurricane by the time it makes landfall between Port O'Connor and Matagorda Bay.

The coastal cities of Port Aransas and Aransas Pass are ordering mandatory hurricane evacuations. While Corpus Christi is under voluntary evacuation. In Houston, officials are bracing for impact, and advising the public to be prepared. Emergency management officials have voiced concerns about complacency.

  Other stories this evening:

  • A common myth about conservation is that commercial farms are only concerned with profit and not environmental impact. Miriam Horn of the Environmental Defense Fund spent three years following large-scale food producers that defy this stereotype. Today on Think, Horn talked with Krys Boyd about how ranchers like Dusty McCrary are using chemical-free methods to fight weeds.

  • Many actors like to think they're chameleons, capable of playing any role, but Coy Covington is a stage actor with a specialty not everyone can do. He's North Texas' leading female impersonator. This week in the Art&Seek Artist Spotlight, Jerome Weeks goes backstage with Covington as he prepared for his newest show.
