Top Stories: Supreme Court Hands Down Decisions Affecting Texas

Stella Chavez / KERA News
Texas Organizing Project sets up for a press conference following the U.S. Supreme Court's immigration ruling.

The top local stories this afternoon from KERA News: The Supreme Court today handed affirmative action a major victory by upholding a University of Texas admissions policy that includes race as a factor. The high court also ruled on President Obama's plan to shield millions of immigrants from deportation. KERA's Christopher Connelly and Stella Chavez report on both issues and how it affects Texans.

The Supreme Court is also expected to rule next week on the final Texas case this session. House Bill 2 requires physicians performing abortions to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals. Clinics must also meet the standards of ambulatory surgical centers. The ruling is expected to come down on Monday.
