The cost of a college education in Texas has grown more expensive over the last 15 years. Average tuition and fees over the time have gone up 148 percent.
A state Senate committee hearing now underway is considering several bills that would limit tuition increases. One would ban tuition increases until 2022. It’s a priority for Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, but it’s not clear how Senate Bill 19 would fare in the House. Past efforts to re-regulate tuition have failed.
