The Dallas Public Art Committee has unanimously adopted all recommendations from the Mayor’s Task Force on Confederate Monuments. It now goes before the Cultural Affairs Commission tomorrow.
Among the recommendations: Preserve the Robert E. Lee statue recently removed from Oak Lawn Park and eventually move it to a museum. The task force also recommends changing the names of three streets honoring Confederate leaders. The group decided not to remove any Confederate art or architecture from Fair Park. Instead, informative signs were recommended to add context.
After the Cultural Affairs Commission hears the recommendations, the City Council will likely consider them next month.
