Top Stories: Preserving Items From The Dallas Police Shootings; The Lasting Impact Of Jan Pruitt

Two police cruisers outside Dallas police headquarters are covered in flowers, cards and stuffed animals in an impromptu memorial.

The top local stories this afternoon from KERA News:

After the July attack in Downtown Dallas that left five police officers dead; mourners created a makeshift memorial in front of Police Headquarters. It included thousands of items from flowers to flags, and much more.

The Dallas Public Library has collected the items and intends to preserve them. Jo Giudice is the director of the library and she joins KERA’s Justin Martin to talk about the collection.

  • Jan Pruitt has been leading the fight against hunger as head of the North Texas Food Bank for the last 20 years. Now, she’s fighting a personal battle—against cancer. Earlier this month, she stepped down as the food bank’s President and CEO, and will no longer receive treatment at MD Anderson in Houston. KERA’s Courtney Collins takes a look at her legacy.
