The top local stories this morning from KERA News:

We may not have seen the worst of the flu season yet. Flu cases typically peak between December and March.

Since Oct. 1, Dallas County has reported 18 flu-related deaths. None so far in Tarrant or surrounding counties, but cases are rising. Russ Jones, chief epidemiologist for Tarrant County Public Health, told the Dallas Morning News 12 long-term care facilities in the county have had flu outbreaks.

So far, more than 1,100 people across Texas have died of flu or pneumonia this season. Older adults, people with chronic health conditions, pregnant women, young children and infants are more vulnerable to the flu.

Health officials say the flu vaccine is the best protection against illness, and recommend it for people aged 6 months and older.
