Damage from Rowlett indicates at least an EF3 tornado hit the area, the National Weather Service says.

The top stories this afternoon from KERA News: More than two dozen Texas counties are now eligible for federal help following the deadly late December tornadoes. President Barack Obama declared 25 counties federal disaster areas.

Last month, Governor Greg Abbott requested the disaster designation to provide expanded government assistance.

A North Texas mega-ranch has been sold. Billionaire mogul Stan Kroenke is owner of the Los Angeles Rams and the Denver Nuggets. Now, he can add the Waggoner Ranch to that list.

Finally, a report released last week by Apartment List shows Texas rentals jumped three-and-a-half-percent last year, outpacing the nation. Other research shows almost half of Texans spend more than 30 percent of their income on rent.

You can hear North Texas stories weekdays at 8:20 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. on KERA 90.1 FM.
