Top Stories: Irving-Based Exxon Mobil CEO Tapped For U.S. Secretary Of State

The top local stories this morning from KERA News: President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson to be his Secretary of State.

The leader of the Irving-based oil giant is the first Texan Trump selected for a cabinet position.

The Wichita Falls native and UT grad’s done extensive business in Russia while with Exxon Mobil.  Trump calls that a  positive, but those connections worry some in Congress and they could lead to a tough confirmation process for Tillerson. 

Other stories this morning:

  • Federal and state education officials heard from angry parents in Richardson last night at a listening session on special education enrollment. Officials from the U.S. Department of Education are touring the state this week after allegations that the Texas Education Agency denied special education services to children.
  • The Dallas school district and The Dallas Yoga Center are working together to create a mindfulness meditation program for students and teachers.
